Superheroes: Minions, part 1

"Rank" Husker was leaning quietly against the wall by the parking garage elevator, smoothing his fingernails with the little file on his pocket knife. There was a click on the ground next to him, and he swung his hand outward with a practiced motion to block the space just past the corner of the wall.

"Careful, Jack. Don't want to get hit by a car or anything."

"I'm not deaf, nobody's coming."

"Yeah, I know. It's like the Boss just stopped taking meetings or something." Rank snapped shut his knife and put it away.

"He's got me on patrol. Whole damn garage full of cameras and he wants me walking the place."

"Looking for anything?"

"You. Rank, you gotta get out. He hasn't paid me in two weeks. I'm pretty sure the money's gone."

"I think he's decided to shorten your chain."

The elevator came up, and both men straightened. The doors opened and their boss came out, the semi-infamous Buzzer.

"Boys, I hate to say this, but I'm pretty sure you want to hear it right away. The money's a bit tight. We got a job tomorrow, but if it goes sour, you never heard of me."

"Sorry to hear that, Boss," said Rank. "What kind of job is it?"
