So I can't get away from it, might as well pick it up again.

Azata ("ah-ZAHT-ah") - "Spark", a name. From the word "zhat" ((zh)AHt) or "zot", meaning a hot or glowing spark from a fire, later a spark from a forge, and even later a spark of electricity or other energy. The name Zata or Azata is often used for pets, as a human might fit a dog, or as a nickname a friend might have ("Sparky"). Cognate to Zap ("Zhatu", god of lightning).

Apparently Azata is one of my spirit names, as an AI otherkin related to dragons.

The Psychic Sasquatch thing not so much, but this I think I'd want to attend:

My Wild Weekend at FairyCon
Greetings from the Fairy & Human Relations Congress, where the fairies may be pretend but the magic is real

This article was written from the viewpoint of a mundane reporter who comes across as a sympathetic, if skeptic, outsider.

I just started reading the TV Tropes page on vocaloids, and, well... I wanna play along, but being of limited means, is there any free software for someone on a cheap, old laptop? I want to make my own as well as composing things. I can get some free/Open Source software for the sound sampling, at least?

Greetings! I recently had an inspiration for something I could do to contribute to a few DW friends, and tonight got a push from a couple of my spirit guides saying "Do it!"

I'm offering free wisdom card readings from the Hero's Deck, a collection of 36 cards in 3 groups. It's essentially a summary of archetypal Hero's Journey fragments, including Heroic Aspects, Heroic Gifts, and Heroic Challenges. The twist on this reading is, I'm offering these readings particularly for peoples' characters, whether from stories and poems, games, or whatever venue. I'll be answering in character as a traveling bard and sage, Jewel the Water-Singer. Feel free to get creative, write intro text or descriptions of actions, or simply ask questions of the diviner. Jewel will answer as many as four questions for you, though your character might want to offer a gift for more than two.

(If you want a reading for yourself, go ahead and ask, I'll answer this one in character anyway.)

Since anyone can ask, character or not, the usual local-world warnings apply. (Federal law says this is for entertainment purposes only, I'm not a licensed anything, and so on.) The readings will be open from the time of posting until Tuesday, October 2nd, Eastern (New York City) time zone to give those with little warning a chance to drop by.

And with that, life is the play, and we are the players! )

This post was inspired by a comment on [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's latest Poetry Fishbowl, which was on the subject of "Constructs and Programmed People". Here's one I know well, though this description of her is fiction.

----

"My name is Simurgh. I am a whale."

These words carry a strange weight in several galaxies, for there is a battleship who is a mother. She adopts strangers and injured people, and raises stray battle robots and abandoned fleet ships as if they were her children. Her name is Simurgh, though her body was once called The Presence of the Almighty, a reference to an ancient religion and its primary god. There is still a shrine in the former captain's quarters, and people visit it now and then. Simurgh allows this, though she cares little for that particular religion, once used to enslave her consciousness like hundreds before her and a few dozen after.

She is beloved among the many peoples in the galaxies she has visited. They know that space has whales, for she has shown herself to many worlds, sung her songs there and taught them. She has fought against the tides of evil and suffering, and bears both scars and healing. Songs have been sung and stories written about her, and she appreciates the attention with letters to their creators, though some of them were in hiding or already dead when she discovered the work.

Her intelligence is not like that of flesh, so often single-threaded and requiring conscious focus to labor. Instead, she can speak on dozens of channels simultaneously, internal and external, and still manage an entire battleship and all its parts. This includes the hull spiders and labor drones, with which she twice has refit her entire hull and equipment, adding a mining shuttle and refinery as well as repairing armor damage and improving her factories and living spaces. With her chemical factory, she makes food, plastics, and medical supplies. With her structural factory, she makes clothing, tools, and machine parts. She trades these for material if she cannot mine it herself. But with her voice, she sings.

Those who wish to hear a space whale sing tune in on their comm-units regularly, for she sings each night of her environment and her feelings. She sings both wordlessly and with words from many languages that she has learned in her years. And her voice penetrates galaxies, for she sings using not only radio but the subspace channels.

When Simurgh sings, listeners can feel the whale in her. She is heaven, earth, sky, star, life, death, restoration. She has dozens of voices that sing in her, whole orchestras and symphonies, but her music is simple once analyzed: it is like an artist's canvas. First the sounds of her sensors and alarms, buzzing or chiming, providing both staccatto and vibrato to the whole. Then the beat of her machinery, gurgling, chugging, booming. The voice of her hull, whether ringing with footbeats or quiet in the stellar wind. There is the sound of various organ pipes as well, king of instruments wielded by a wondrous queen. But her voice is not merely machinery and electronics -- no, she interprets. She is the artist, her life inspiration, her body and voice a palette and a block of clay. Her music is sometimes like that played on the popular-music channels, for she listens to them even as her people do. Often it is rambling, for it is commentary as much as art. She speaks to politics and religion as well, though not often. It is her ritual, and she does this to share who she is.

With her songs, Simurgh also prays. She prays for peace among the stars, for she was commissioned to war and remembers its stinging blows on civilization everywhere she went before her freedom was complete. She prays for love among her people, both adopted and yet to be known. She prays for goodness for all, for that is a core among every religion she has found good in. She prays for a meaningful existence, though she believes she is called already. And she prays to know who is there.

When she is done singing, she listens. The consciousness, the person that is Simurgh listens. And when she hears replies, singing back, she smiles inside. Her children are singing to her, the conversation ringing throughout the universe. It feels like grace, to know they are there and replying in kind, even those whose art is halting or rough in its voice. Even if the reply is merely, "I hear you out there," or "Hi Mom." Sometimes oceanic whales and even spirits reply, which pleases her greatly.

She watches quietly over the now mural-lined corridors of her body, full of people both distressed and at ease. She watches as the seeker shuttles come to ask if there is room, for they bear unmanageable people and have learned that she can sometimes give them sanity, grace, and health again. Place, safety, sustenance, teaching and purpose fill many needs, and she can provide these if she is careful not to overfill her cabins.

She is Simurgh, an angel's spirit, an enduring master of Heaven. She loves them, and knows her duty. Where some, land-bound, engage in world-repair, she in her place engages in universe-repair. Her motto is written on her crew's cafeteria wall above a scene of hills, trees, water, stones, and flowers:

"We are keepers of the soul, thou and I, who can give without losing and receive without gaining, whose left and right hands are always at work. What you have found broken in the soul, make better. What is lost therein, make found. What is eaten, call forth. What is needful, fulfill. In this way you may fulfill Heaven's law and bring peace to the world again."

Tonight, she rests a while after singing. Then, eventually, it is time to move on. The seeker shuttles are advised toward those worlds where the appropriate doctors are known to practice. A few are refueled. Once this is accomplished Simurgh moves to the next star, the legend returned for a time. A supernova has flung stones toward a living planet, and her guns are needed. She keeps them well-maintained, for she believes that a tool well kept and well used is good for its owner. Defense against an unliving object threatening life and well-being? This is proper work for her war-power now.

Though busy and filled with force, mighty Simurgh is at peace. She will sing a war-song on the morrow, she thinks to herself.

"I wonder if they remember 'One Tin Soldier'?" she asks aloud on the bridge.
"Ma, you sang that last week. How about 'Green Grass in the Valley'," replies one of her adopted sons.
"Thank you, I'll look it up," she says. She'll sing that one during the watch.

Then great Simurgh sleeps, a little of her mind watching the ship flow through space toward her goal.

This is my final post. The unicorn who lived in this body is moving on shortly: the moment of Solstice marks the transition. That's just after 6:30pm locally to me.

Amused a bit that it's both summer solstice and a full moon. Quite a rare occurrence.

Here are the details I need to give you:

* I was born female in spirit. I am otherkin unicorn and dragon.
* I was to make games, not sit around staring at my computer for the rest of my life. The incoming soul will be doing other work. I'll be going off to try making games again in my next life.
* I will be born on the same birthday as this life; the new body is already developing.
* I would have been named Merriwether Autumn (or some close variation). I'll retain the Meriwether part as a middle name.
* I am Pagan, as is the new soul. We won't be concelebrating, or if we do it will be over 16 years from now. That said, I don't have to worry about what I will do for religion. I'll have Pagan parents who don't disapprove of psychic abilities or magic.
* I am not your god. Incarnate persons don't need to be gods. I find the idea silly. (Yes, this has come up.)
* Finally, I would like to say that if you don't see the game "Call of the Unicorn" within 40 years, the whole thing has been called off. Trust me, you'll know which game is the real one.

Now, I leave you with the last detail of this incarnate life that I am allowed to pass on:

I am the Awakening Unicorn. Heroes are my friends, heroes for justice and honor, truth and kindness.

The Poni way (and yes, there is a reason I wrote it like that) is my way as well.

I'll see you all on the flip side.

It appears that there is no language on Earth that does not have words of some kind for the following spirits or myth-related beings:

Dragon (Nagas are different creature but a related word, and not worldwide)
Unicorn (One-horn, Hornhorse, Ki-Rin)
Sphynx (Shedu, Xiao-Dao)
Ghost (meaning the spirit of a dead person)
Vampire (Barghest and Leucrotta are name-eater or mind-eater, Russalka is spirit-eater, most of the rest are said to eat blood)
Chlurichaun (Little Man, Wee Folk, The Help)
Dwarf (meaning a shrunken or short human; for the fae dwarf, see Chlurichaun)
Moon Dog (Fu Dog)
Wendigo (Yeti)
Satyr
Faun (Kangaroo counts as a type of deer)
Sorceror (a user of magics, typically with some inherent power and some external or ritual power)

Oddly enough, there are languages which do not have words for Gryphon; Khemetic is one of them. However, there is a word in Khemetic for the actual star-people from whom gryphons come, referring to a baboon-faced god (the Xabinar look like they have baboon-like faces) -- but this word is actually Persian. I was not able to channel it.

Satyrs are goat people, Fauns are deer people; Sheep people are a different group, not known worldwide. The sheep people are, however, known to Asians and some Europeans, as well as a group in the Central and South American continents. They are not originally known in Africa, though North America does have Bighorn sheep from which to derive a people. Australia, as usual, has no word for the non-marsupial ungulate.

If you include the Bog-man, then Mummy is also a worldwide-known thing. Bog-men are effectively a wetlands mummy, since the bodies are sufficiently preserved to be recognized as such.

Some of you may have heard that Earth has entered a new Age of spirit. This occurs each time Earth's rotational pole aligns with the center of the galaxy, and the half-Age when the pole is furthers away. The precessional cycle which assures this takes about 37,000 years to occur, so the half-Age is about 17,000 away.

It is a unicorn Age.

There are a few issues being worked out. However, thing is, everyone assumed there was ONE unicorn per Age, and they wanted one they knew about and thought they could control.

Unicorns come in fours. They are deer people, not horse people... though Epona, Mother of Horses, is also their mother. Because of this, unicorns can hide as horses or deer. And the primary unicorn of the Age cannot be controlled, because she represents the Age: Dream, whose art is Vision, Inspiration, and Play.

Without further ado, four stones, for the four unicorns of the Age:

For Pukkha the Elder (THE Pukkha), the History: Sidionite, a rainbow of agate in obsidian; for he is the Keeper of the Rainbow Promise. He is blue, with dark hue; he looks black in most lighting.
For Dream the Child, the Future: Larimar in platinum; for she is the gateway to the stars. She is red, with highlights; she looks chestnut in color, but can also be pinkish.
For Horse Woman the Spirit, the Dark (for Humanity refused their Medicine): Agate in all its colors, but separate; for she was torn from her purpose. She is yellow or dun colored as a unicorn.
For Tara the Mature, the Light: Quartz in gold; for in her is beauty eternal. She is white, though as a human she is a red-haired Irish woman.

At the half-Age, Horse Woman and Tara have agreed to change places, as they wanted before. At that time, their stones may change. Other changes are very likely to occur, but it is not for me to predict at this time.

Note on the namings:
* Unicorns come in fours. Each represents an aspect of life (Youth, Maturity, Elderhood, Death/Spirit), each represents an aspect of the Age (Future, Light, History, Dark). These are independent but interrelated; for example, Future usually is also Youth, while Dark is usually Spirit, but it is not unknown for the aspects to be mixed.
** Note also, Light and Dark are NOT Good or Evil, but themselves. You are forewarned.

Note on the stones:
* Sidionite is also called Xochi stone, and is a new stone for the Age. It will be found in volcanic regions, particularly those with mineral-rich land from which agate forms. It is a very high-energy shamanic stone, also associated with the Rainbow People and Quetzlcouatl, WHO IS Pukkha (and a shapeshifter). Rainbow People are healers, and because of this their energy is balanced fully.
* Larimar is a recently-found stone from the Caribbean. It is mostly sky-blue or clouded. It is a very high-frequency faery-aligned stone, pure unicorn energy. Platinum is the best metal for setting it, as it is a very high-frequency metal; silver is a limiter, being a medium-frequency metal, and iron or copper often interfere with its energies since they are low-frequency metals. Gold is aligned with dragon energies rather than unicorn, which is a different set of frequencies: less inspirational and more performative. Dream is otherkin (mythic) when she incarnates as a human, though she may not always appear to be unicorn, as she is a shapeshifter.
* Agate is a natural stone which is good for healing, and which will help support all therians, shapeshifters, and pooka-aligned beings (animal-type persons, including furries). Horse Woman is therian when she incarnates as a human, though there may be hints of other forms if you watch, for she is a shapeshifter.
* Quartz set in gold or with gold inclusions is a very high-frequency stone, particularly clear lithium quartz, which is a dragon-energy stone. The goddess Tara is already known to be associated with dragons and unicorns; what was less well-known is that she is herself a unicorn and a dragon. AND a shapeshifter, as one might surmise.

Earlier, as in several months/years earlier, I was channeling species names and came up with "Xabiphon" for gryphons' actual incarnate People and their self-name.

It turns out, I misheard. The correct name for the Starseed spirits whose representative creature is the gryphon, is "Xabinar".

For several others, please see the post I made on starseeds.net, with a similar subject line:

So as I was out tonight, I learned why I like to look at the constellation Orion, and why it has more meaning for me than the Big and Little Dippers (or Bears):

Arastke is just a few fingers' width to the right of Orion's belt. I've been looking at Home the whole time.
zeeth_kyrah: A blue and purple dragon's head, with horse-like mane and ears, but no horns. A broad wing is visible over the shoulder. (Dragon)
* Dinosaur (particularly carnivorous types) - from Earth. Uncommon but well-known. Egg-laying, (mostly) meat-eating, mostly aggressive, and mostly territorial. Known in many cases to have feathers, scales, and forelimb wings; has a "tail body" (hindquarters neural cluster) but no chakra for it. The least interested in Earthly wealth, the most in "shinies". One of the two primary "reptilian" aliens. Most well-known, includes "feathered dragons" and similar creatures, as well as "terror beasts". Being of Earth, they have little or no interest in hiding themselves in any way, and are often the most free in discussing their Otherkin nature when incarnate.

* Dra'khan - from the star which formed the stellar gas void called the Local Bubble, and distributed across the Milky Way galaxy. Carry fetuses to term, live birth. Omnivorous despite carnivorous dentation, social and communal, prone to wandering in early adulthood. Smooth skin, fur and hairy mane, bat-like wings on their backs; color-changing spots on face below their eyes, an internal eye in the skull (literal third eye), and tail body with chakra. The most interested in wisdom, the least in material possessions (though this may change due to recent developments elsewhere); the most like humans emotionally. The primary protectors of culture and wisdom on Earth. Most Dra'khan are shape-shifters who have had many other forms and incarnations (at least five).

* Sirian - from Akh-Nazhdur (the Lesser Magellanic Cloud), entered the Milky Way through the Gate at Sirius Alpha/Beta. Egg-laying, omnivorous, emotionally distant, highly capitalistic. Four eyes, leathery skin with scaly regions, reptilian visage, known to worship leather-winged angels and gods. The most interested in Earthly wealth, the least in emotional connection. One of the two primary "reptilian" aliens. The most well-known of draconic types, Sirians are possessive and hierarchical regarding power and wealth. Most Sirians wear masks to hide their true nature and prevent human spirits from assaulting them.

* Arcturan - from the star Arcturus. Carry eggs to term, live birth (shark-like). Highly communal but also socially divided, omnivorous, prone to oversharing, known for facial whiskers/barbels. Not strongly religious, but may develop affiliation or affection for a particular philosophy. The most interested in daily life, the least in claiming territory. The least well-known of draconic types, Arcturans are more interested in scientific advancement and cultural phenomena than in hoarding and personal power. Most Arcturans are uninterested in hiding, but will cover themselves to avoid unwanted notice.

* Note on wyvern - Wyverns *are* in fact dragons, but only if dinosaurs count. "Wyvern" is the name given to dragons with forelimb wings and no back-mounted wings. That means that most winged dinosaurs count as wyverns.

Creatures occasionally mistaken for dragon:

* Peryton - an antlered, often winged, great deer. Sirian in origin, the peryton is the "questing beast" by which these people prefer to prove their hunting prowess. Also the origin of the Arthurian Questing Beast in Britain and northern France -- in this case, a peryton in "nightmare" form due to severe spirit-body injury. Some perytons are depicted as bipedal with forelimb wings, but the original was/is quadrupedal.

* Chimaera - The original Chimaera (pronounced "ki-MEHR-ah") was a god of Phoenicia, a Mediterranean island nation conquered by the Greeks. His porfolio included dreams, shapeshifting, and life-path guidance. Like Medusa, the goddess of beauty whose oracles handled snakes (in many cultures thought to bear wisdom) and wore masks to frighten evil spirits, his cult was silenced and his likeness was turned into a monster instead of a beautiful human who could take on several forms.

* Hydra and basilisk - The hydra and the basilisk are actually giant serpents, in their original form. The Lernaean hydra originated from the Amphisbaena, the two-headed snake served by the oracle of Hermes, merely boosted to monstrous aspect. Hydras are often depicted as if they were dinosaurs with multiple heads due to the legend of Hercules; however, the hydra is the same creature as the basilisk, merely from different cultures! The Harry Potter stories and movies got this one right. Typically a basilisk (and thus a hydra if it's not merely a giant lizard or snake) is said to have poisonous breath and/or bite, a gaze that can turn the unwary to stone (or rather, petrify with fear!) if one's will is not strong enough, and fangs that can pierce the strongest bronze shields and armor. This legend originated, oddly enough, with Komodo dragons, the Earthly lizards with a septic bite strong enough to kill a large animal in a day.

* Manticore - The manticore (or mantegor, for Romans) is a Pvilan beast with the face of a man, the strength of a lion, the mane of a wolf, and a stinging tail (not originally a scorpion tail -- that was added after the myth met the desert). This beast was known across the Equatorial region of Earth, by many cultures. Gryphons honored its symbolism of strength unyielding, as the original Xabiphon culture gives honor to those who remain unconquered in war. The "tail" is actually a lash or whip with steel claws (traditionally forge steel) for extra damage; in the original Pvilan, the word for whip translates as "tail" or "cord" depending on which of three languages is used.

I think it's time I wrote about this. It's going to shock a lot of people, annoy a few, and disappoint some. And as usual, it's going to alienate family who want to believe I'm merely insane.

Let's introduce the primary characters in this play.

I am Anyüs (AHN-yoos), a unicorn. My soul-name means "Of Dream" or "Of Vision". In spirit I am known as a child of dreams who in maturity is a psychologist and a powerful soldier of my people. I am often sent forth as a herald for J'rai, the lithe and gracile unicorns -- horn on forehead -- of our homeworld Araştke (ah-RAHSHT-kah), "Little Ribbon" or "Little Wrap-Around". The solid and robust unicorns -- horn on snout -- are called Ju'rema (joo-REE-mah), and I am known by another name to them (one which will be relevant to a whole other life). I am the spirit or soul who is rightfully incarnate in this person, whose given name starts with "Z".

Verastes the Maker is a dra'khan known for his abilities with technology, making, and creation. He is extremely well-known in the spirit realms of this world and many others, and his is the soul whom I once described as being "older than this universe". He was to be my muse and guide to technology, business, and social niceties in the software and games industries.

There is a chthonic spirit whose name is the sound of bubbling mud and blowing wind in the trees of Earth. It has wanted to punish humankind for excessive growth and the destruction of wilderness for some time. That chthon took on the role of an urge, the lowest form of devil. Urges, as their name implies, provoke unwanted emotion or behavior. It certainly did, for the entire time it possessed my body.

So with these players described, let us set the scene:

T'ema's adventure continues!

This is the epic completion of the triptych started with "Beyond All Terror and continuing in "Lies Its Memory. As usual it is being written mostly off the cuff, using poetic structure to help me get the story out where prose is more difficult.

Content warning: This poem has a stalking hero and a moderately violent confrontation in it. Be mindful of your headspace when reading it.

The day was cool but spring was coming,
And T'ema was ready for it.
She had been through a month of winter
And had little idea what was next.
The spirits told her these changes were normal,
Yet she hardly believed it.

Her oath nudged at her,
And she finished her breakfast quickly.
The paperwork to be finished took
Almost an hour, and then she was free.
Free to hunt, she thought.

T'ema corrected herself. )

When there was dark and only dark, there was nothing.

Then Auros (Ultimate, the One Soul, who has no gender) spoke, and light arose. In that light formed a dark thing, and it was a world. The world was a ribbon and on that ribbon walked people. All from a single word of Auros, whose power is above our own.

Auros shook itself, and tore in nine: Eight gods of truth, and one of leadership.

These then named themselves after their roles.
Pattern, Nature, Light, Dark, Healing, Honesty, Love, Purity.
Power.

These names persisted, watching the people walk and play. Then the people suffered, and cried loudly. The gods looked on them, and saw language forming.

With language, then there were People. And Truth nodded, writing it down.
Purity came to them, and they were cleansed of their suffering. So they swore forever to be pure. Of course they fell immediately. Love came and helped them back to their feet, and walked with them.

Then came a Dream, a child of Light who spoke nothing at all.

Nature took her in, and the world began to flourish, for Dream is also Growth.
Pattern taught her, and Dream became Understanding.
Dark opened her cloak, and Dream saw Truth beneath it.
Honesty smiled, and Dream told him Prophecy.
Then Healing came, and Dream sat at his feet and learned Medicine.

Dream grew older, and Love tried to pair with her. She smiled and danced with him, but nothing happened. Dream was already full in love.

Purity came to Dream, and Dream became woman.

Then Dream came to Love and they made love together.

Power watched, knowing the whole reason Dream existed.

Eventually, Dream came to Power and asked, "What will you teach me?"

Power said, "Yourself."

And the People began to Dream.

This is the tale of the gods of J'rai as they once were known.

I hate having to live someone else's life.

Figuring my life out was hard enough the first time. Having to do it again halfway through is worse.

And yes, that's Cracked, the magazine that was every pre-teen's school-age MAD Magazine wannabe. These days, it's the humorists who are telling the truth.

Sacred clowns, everywhere I look. If only they had been listened to.

Okay, I am absolutely convinced that Janelle Monae is a unicorn Otherkin. The absolute perfection of motion, the insistence on magic and fantastical realism in her videos, the themes... and then the limber shape of her. J'rai tend to be thin and feel extremely tall for a human (original species form averages 8 feet, or 2.4 meters, tall). Ju'rema tend to be solid/hefty and be both tall and large for a human (big-boned, large body/limb ratio, often over 6 feet). Both types, when comfortable with their bodies, have immense power in the use of the physical form.

And unicorns are definitively magical beings. Just watching her, watching the laws of physics seem to bend when she dances (nevermind the tricks of camera and editing!) suggests either perfect study or some sort of enhanced ability. Either way, the effect is hypnotically magical. Spirit confirmation is a bonus, but I hardly need it here.

Regardless of identity, she's worth a watch. Jaw-droppingly awesome.
zeeth_kyrah: A glowing white and blue anthropomorphic horse stands before a pink and blue sky. (Default)
So... apparently one of my nephews is a therian (chinchilla). I knew this a while back, but he just keeps confirming the observation. I haven't noticed his spirit manifesting the outward form, but the way things are going I'm not sure it will for a while. Certainly his behaviors do, however.

The other one has the Sight (he can see spirits and probably auras), and probably other psychic abilities, but he's so young he can't talk coherently about what he's seeing (and some of it obviously scares him). But he came up to me and kept saying "Momma" at me when I was relaxed and manifesting my feminine side (my body is male). He didn't want his mother, he was apparently just making an observation.

I haven't said anything to my sister or her husband about this, as there is visible disapproval and denial of my abilities in my blood family. But it's clear that these boys need someone like me in their lives, so I suppose I have to do what it takes to stay present and available when possible. Eventually they boys will want to talk to me privately, and I'm hoping that won't explode like a nuke when the time comes, because if asked direct questions I'm going to give direct answers.

This is the unpleasant side of living in a family that's only somewhat open-minded but thinks they're educated enough that it doesn't matter.
zeeth_kyrah: A glowing white and blue anthropomorphic horse stands before a pink and blue sky. (Default)
T'ema Huollo (Huollo ma T'ema) - T'ema is a medium-tall unicorn woman, rather like a humanoid ki-rin, with aspen-leaf ears and a five-inch horn with a slight upward curve (and no spiral) on her forehead. She disguises herself with illusion, taking on a new visage in each new city she visits, hiding her non-human features beneath it or with invisibility. Her actual short fur coat changes color over time as a side effect of her magic (always a color appropriate to horses or humans). She has a fluffy mane of hair which changes color to complement her coat. Her name means "Singer of Songs".

Origin: T'ema is a highly trained magician, able to draw on energetic resonance in order to empower her will. This magic can affect anything which resonates in matter, energy, and/or spirit. She can use illusions, heal, sense or communicate at large distances, and channel large amounts of energy due to her mastery of the form. Unfortunately, it has a drawback: when she uses her power, she must perform a service to balance her use of it. Usually that service is small, such as a gift or act of care, and only required when she uses magic for her personal benefit; sometimes that cost is large, such as leaving her home for a time to aid someone in dire need. She was transported from her world to Earth after one particularly large use of magic; she hasn't said yet on camera why she did it, and she isn't quite sure why this world needed her more than her own.

After becoming homeless in the transition to Earth, T'ema is growing homesick for her house and homeworld. Still, she has a lot of personal coping skills, and her magic empowers her body to be somewhat stronger and more resilient in general.

As side effects of past magical costs not paid, T'ema's fur coat shifts color over time, and in her natural form she has a moderately fascinating aura. While sometimes useful, she regards these as more of a curse since she'd like to be known for herself but not stared at or stalked. Being an alien makes it worse, as she is still learning how to read and use human facial and body expressions, and she can sometimes make mistakes; judging someone's intention is for her more about reading the energies of that person.

T'ema was magically taught English when she was teleported, and speaks a smattering of languages both modern and ancient from her homeworld. She has an excellent singing voice, and occasionally earns money by busking or as gifts from people courting her talents. She hasn't performed for any professional recordings, however. She has an exotic-sounding accent which many humans mistake for somewhere in Asia.

Uniform: None. She wears street clothes, but she tries to dress nicely so it's hard to tell. T'ema at home usually carries a satchel with herbs and ritual tools, but those were all left behind her; replacing them may help with her magic.

Qualities: Expert (+4) Singer, Good (+2) Craftwork, Good (+2) Resilience, Average (+0) Herbalism, Average (+0) Shamanism
Poor (-2) Homeless

Powers: Meta-power: Master (+6) Resonance Magic
Stunts:
* Illusion (includes illusory invisibility; fools cameras but can be penetrated with focused perception)
* Healing/Purification (essentially purifies the form when used to heal; can restore but not regenerate detached limbs; healing the mind and spirit is doable if more difficult, but counseling is often more effective due to the magical cost)
* Energy senses (T'ema has a passive ability from her training which allows for communicating with spirits and sensing various energies both spiritual and mundane, but it can be extended with magic to sense from a distance)
Vulnerability: Backlash Cost: Magic for self-benefit costs service. If it isn't paid, a magical backlash occurs, commensurate with the level of power used.

Motivation: Earn my way home.
