Greetings! I recently had an inspiration for something I could do to contribute to a few DW friends, and tonight got a push from a couple of my spirit guides saying "Do it!"

I'm offering free wisdom card readings from the Hero's Deck, a collection of 36 cards in 3 groups. It's essentially a summary of archetypal Hero's Journey fragments, including Heroic Aspects, Heroic Gifts, and Heroic Challenges. The twist on this reading is, I'm offering these readings particularly for peoples' characters, whether from stories and poems, games, or whatever venue. I'll be answering in character as a traveling bard and sage, Jewel the Water-Singer. Feel free to get creative, write intro text or descriptions of actions, or simply ask questions of the diviner. Jewel will answer as many as four questions for you, though your character might want to offer a gift for more than two.

(If you want a reading for yourself, go ahead and ask, I'll answer this one in character anyway.)

Since anyone can ask, character or not, the usual local-world warnings apply. (Federal law says this is for entertainment purposes only, I'm not a licensed anything, and so on.) The readings will be open from the time of posting until Tuesday, October 2nd, Eastern (New York City) time zone to give those with little warning a chance to drop by.

And with that, life is the play, and we are the players! )

You see, instead of disappearing, they hid in professions nobody would realize were anything but ordinary... but sometimes one manifests a truth that could only have been heard by the soul. This person has to have heard this song from spirit, because I heard it as well some weeks ago.

Lyrics are shown on-screen, though the interludes are filled with "alien" text. They are reprinted here:

THE CALLING

So I had a dream this past night, where someone's luggage was being moved out of a house. And I had this big cargo dolly that I was going to use to do something. And then before I could, I was turned away and had to carry the dolly back.

Someone's leaving my family soon. The only one I can think of... is a cat.

By the way, Sekhmet also sometimes appears as a cougar... just in case someone reading this has been having dreams of a cougar trying to talk to them.

ETA: 2pm - The dream did involve heavy rain. As a dream sign, the common meaning of storms (particularly rain) is death. So it's not an evacuation or moving house, an actual death is indicated. So I suppose it's another "wait and see" situation.

(Written by the seat of my pants, with minimal editing. Let's see if I can finish this, or only get partway into it. Inspired by [personal profile] ysabetwordsmith's poem "Simple as a Glass of Chocolate" and the comments below it, as well as recent personal events.)

T'e-ma Huollo was a creature of another world,
Walking ethereally through ours. Her heart
Echoed with the songs of ages, her mind
Was filled with thoughts of wisdom
Fully distilled.

She looked like beauty itself,
Youth and age and form mixed all together
As in the reflection one sees
In the divination well.

Upon her brow was a horn,
Curved, with a slight twist.
Her hands and feet were like no
Living creature on Earth, formed
With horn upon the ends, but not hooves.
Fingers and toes bent delicately
To grasp their respective tasks.

And when she spoke, it felt like
The songs of the Universe
Echoed around the listener,
Leaving impressions of emotion
That colored her words.

But this is not what made her so alien.

It was simply that the world she walked
Did not know her, did not know itself
In her presence, for her power
Was alien spirit made flesh.

Today, I had to destroy a machine I had built.. a construct in spirit meant to aid enlightenment.

Why? Because it was being misused. I built it to help people dream, to awaken their imaginations and give flight to fancies that otherwise would never fly. To help the People of Earth build The Future.. the future we always wanted, the future we each wish we could live.

Instead, it was turned into another cheap excuse for brainwashing, a way to distribute propaganda.

So no. I will not be party to enslavement.

I'm building another. That thing was due for an upgrade anyway. And I'm building in even better safeguards.

But a tool is a tool no matter who wields it: The wielder determines its ultimate use.

Better that many have the same tool than that one may dominate with it. Better that we build a system together, than a system only one may control.

Better to have dreams of better from everyone, than to dream the sweet lie of ignorance.

Are you ready to dream?

I am.

The sun was drifting low in the orange sky and shadows were growing long. A slim-muscled feminine figure slipped from place to place down the empty road, long legs spanning leagues. Her tail fluttered a bit as she paused next to a road sign, considering the path ahead. There was night yet to cover, and plenty of land between her and her target.

The moon began to rise, and she moved on again, taking the westerly route. It might be longer, but it had better views at night. She needed to know that the land still had beauty in it. As she glanced up at the sky to gauge the time, a bit of yellow fire glittered from her eyes.

Toward morning, the creature rested under the eave of a small house just outside its city's boundary line. There was a fire station just up the road, but they wouldn't arrive in time. She took a slow breath, hand resting on her sore heart, and stepped inside. The birds began to sing sunrise as the sky lightened a little.

"Good morning! I'm surprised you aren't dreaming of cars again," she said to her friend. He looked up from his newspaper and nodded, then sat up and laid it aside.

"I'd expected someone else today. Is it time, then?"

"Sadly. We finished last night, and I was dispatched early."

"Well, I haven't got much to do today. I hope the cats will be all right." Her ears bent back at the thought, her focus briefly elsewhere.

"Your family will find someone."

He nodded. "Take me, Sekhmet. I'm ready."

They ran moments later to the door and into the rising sun.
