What is religion?

zeeth_kyrahSometimes we are asked to do things. If we are responsible for doing these things, it is a duty. If we are not necessarily obligated (by responsibility or by other means), then it is a gift we make to the requester.
Sometimes we wish to tie ourselves to someone, and become part of them or have part of them in every part of us. This is intimacy, and it is not always desired, but this intimacy comes with obligations. After all, this is a way of declaring Family.
In the "waking" realm, the realm of material things and flesh, religion is an organized effort to describe spirituality and provide a pattern of belief and behavior for daily life.
In the realm of spirit, religion is a declaration of Family, and a declaration as to who is Head of Household. To follow a religion is to say "Thou art Great above me."
Some religions claim no diety. That's okay. It still works, for the Ideal is held up as the form of perfection, and Ideal is a thing we cannot fully achieve in this material realm; but Ideal is a thing achieved and perfected in spirit.
We have many families, in flesh and in spirit. We are part of this Universe, this galactic cluster, this galaxy, this stellar cluster, this star's presence, this planet, each in our nations and places, each to each other and our environments and all that is within them. We are part of this Realm and the many Realms within and around it. We are connected in ways we cannot always see, but can be aided to discern. We are One, and we are Many.
Religion is a defined way to practice this connection and to see and speak with each other, a way to say "This is someone who is part of me." It is both dogma and relation.
To be a spiritual person is to acknowledge that there is more than the visible to be discerned. To be religious is to say that there is a method by which that discernment can be practiced.
And it is a Family with whom one practices that way.
Be content if you are content. With or without religion, we are Spirit, and Spirit IS Divine. Even the least has a spark of Diety within.
This is religion.
