Here's a brick to the face of expensive energy storage. A little heavy right now, but this is tech worth exploring further.

Now, to couple this with a durable battery pack, and that'll do fine.

Solar tiles, energy storing brick.. you could build a power-house, literally!!

I do not have the necessary knowledge to actually read even the abstract, but the first question that comes to mind is "what if something goes wrong?" Like, sudden discharge or something?

There aren't a lot of masonry buildings here (that aren't historic) because they don't stand up well to earthquakes. Homes would have to have, like, storage piles in the back yard or something, heh.

Physical stability is provided by coating these bricks (actually wafers of brick according to the article) in acrylic plastic, so they aren't likely to crumble under pressure since the acrylic will take that force for it.
