One more saint who defined my youth
Aug. 11th, 2014 09:40 pmSaint Jim, called Jim Henson, whose symbol is a green felt frog among friends of many shapes and colors.
Saint Rogers, Fred to his friends, Mister Rogers to children, whose symbol to is a red, miniature "talking" trolley above a carousel of painted Ionic columns.
Saint Robin, whose symbol is a laughing face, surrounded by the props of disguise and revelation.
Each of them taught us to face the truth, to share gentleness and kindness, to give of ourselves and receive easily and with gratitude. Each of them the maker of a new joy, a new kind of fantasy.
Though they had their troubles, their lives very different from each others', these names and more told me the world was good. They taught me that laughter is not only good medicine, but a way to face shame and fear without letting it destroy you. They taught me that fantasy is not only good but necessary, and the best way to understand certain real-world beliefs without losing yourself to them.
They each taught me to believe that success can be found in loving one's work and doing what one loves... and not only that, but in giving of love. For without that, there is no success that Heaven can see.
May Heaven receive you gently and with kindness, Mister Williams. And may the truth you soon realize meet fantasy in its power!
